I love the kids and all, but I really look forward to Elizabeth coming home and getting back to normal.

Today started out with a breakfast of cold cereal. The kids chowed down on raisin bran and I had Grape Nuts. Speaking of Grape Nuts, why isn't this cereal more popular? I know they're hard but let 'em sit in milk for a bit and they're delicious. Who doesn't like the taste of malted barley?! After breakfast I put on Little Einsteins and caught this video of the kids helping "Rocket" take off:

I then escaped the house with the kids to run a few quick errands. We stopped at Safeway for eggs to make Dutch Babies for breakfast tomorrow and washed the car on the way home. Rachel is totally freaked out about the car wash, but today I told her I would hold her hand and daddy wouldn't let anything happen to her. She actually held it together the whole time and afterwords exclaimed, "Wheeee! That was fun!". I asked her if she wanted to go again and she yelled, "NO!" I have to hand it to Jeremiah - he was encouraging her the whole time.

After getting home I dried off the car while the kids remained inside watching Jonah and the Whale. Then I let the kids out for snack time. We ate raisin muffins, but each kid had to have them prepared a different way: JP wanted his split in half but no butter and not toasted; Rachel wanted toasted and buttered; Elijah wanted buttered, not toasted. I guess I shouldn't complain because it's much faster when they don't all want them toasted and should be encouraged that they're not all just following Jeremiah's lead.

After snack time the kids went out for more bike riding, which was stopped short when JP decided to have a pee accident. He was so excited about going out and riding his bike that he lied to me when I had asked him if he had to pee before we went out. While I was taking care of that, and the bathroom was occupied, Rachel decided to relieve herself on our shoe cubby. Ugh!

By the time everything was cleaned up and the laundry was running it was time to start preparing for lunch. The kids and I each had a Chobani greek yogurt. If you haven't had this stuff you should try it. It isn't nearly as sweet as Yoplait (good in my book) and is remarkably thick and creamy given that most flavors have zero grams of fats. Liz and I were turned on to it when Costco was handing out free samples. Now our Costco doesn't carry it anymore but it is priced competitively with other brands at the local market.

After lunch the kids straightened up the loft while I vacuumed their rooms. Then they went down for their naps and once I was sure that Rachel was asleep I vacuumed the rest of the rooms. Unfortunately JP never did get to sleep, but he is used to staying in his room quietly until his clock says 4:00. Since JP didn't sleep I woke the others up from their naps early because I now was planning to put them all to bed early.

Now that the kids were up, we went back outside for more bike riding. I took JP's training wheels off again for more practice without them but he's still not quite getting the feeling. So I decided to give in to his pleas to put them back on, but did so with them slightly higher off the ground. My hope is that the extra side to side play will help him get the feel of it. It seemed to be working. Today he also discovered riding out of the saddle:

We didn't go back inside until dinner time. Dinner tonight was tater tots and dinosaur chicken with ketchup. The kids loved it so much that each one ordered seconds. Jeremiah ate a total of 5 nuggets and 10 tots, Rachel had four nuggets and ten tots, and Elijah had five nuggets and a half a tot. I guess he didn't like the tots.

Then it was cleanup time, bath time (got to have the kids clean for mom tomorrow!), story time, song time, and good night!

I've had a lot of fun the last three days, but I sure am looking forward to Elizabeth coming home!

This morning started at 5:40AM when Jeremiah came into my room complaining that his brother was stirring and woke him up. I told him that he could climb in bed next to me and go back to sleep. Yeah, that was a mistake because not only didn't he go back to sleep, he kept me up until 6:22AM when Rachel came in and turned on the TV (note that coming into mom and dad's room after 6AM and turning on the TV is an accepted practice in this house).

Breakfast was intended to be "Dutch Babies" but after yesterday's egg & cheese muffins we only had one egg left. So I resorted to the Krusteaz pancakes, which just require mix and water, and are always a hit with the kids. After breakfast the general consensus was to ride our bikes back to the "green park".

While JP was riding his bike in circles around the play area I snapped these photos of Rachel playing on the equipment. It's neat to see her doing the things that JP was doing a year ago, although he was more aggressive.

After the park we returned home for snack time which consisted of apple slices for everyone. Elijah had a tough time with them and ended up doing what Rachel did with them up until recently; chew them up and spit them out. The kids hung out, rode their bikes a bit, drew on the driveway with sidewalk chalk, and watched me turn the sprinklers back on. We haven't had any precipitation for the last few weeks and with this hot weather all the snow has melted.

By this time JP had been such a good boy that he earned enough marbles to fill up his marble jar and earned his reward. He chose to have me take him to Chick-fil-A for a vanilla shake and chicken nuggets for lunch. I keep trying to get him to order a chocolate shake but have been thus far unsuccessful... Thankfully this outing went quite well. The kids were all in a good mood and there was ample seating when we arrived. The staff at Chick-fil-A were very helpful (as always) with getting us situated and making sure we had everything we needed. Unfortunately JP was the only one who ate all his food. Rachel ate one nugget and Elijah, who usually eats as much or more than his older brother, refused to eat any! The only hangup was when Rachel declared that she had to go to the bathroom.

After lunch we headed home for nap time. All three kids went to sleep today between about 2pm and 4pm. During that time I finished cleaning up the kitchen, vacuumed downstairs and the stairs, put the toys away, and fixed a problem my mom was having with her computer that prevented her from seeing yesterday's videos. Just as I was finishing up with that JP, then Rachel, then Elijah woke up...

After nap time JP and Rachel went out to ride their bikes on the sidewalk. Elijah wanted to ride in his tricycle that has a seat belt and a push handle for dad. I snapped a picture of Rachel on her trike (wait, this picture is from yesterday!?). For some reason I just didn't think to snap a pic of Elijah.

We ended up having pizza for dinner, and after dinner the kids wanted to ... you guessed it ... ride their bikes! By 7PM the first mosquitoes of the year were out buzzing around and it was time for the kids to go inside and get to bed. An hour later the kids were in their PJs, teeth brushed, we had read a book, sung "Gentleness", and the kids were in bed. Only one more full day before Mommie returns!

Overall, my first full day went really well. It helped that Liz left us with a crock-pot full of beef stew to ease me into it last night. The kids woke me up around half past six, which is on the later side of normal, and I began the day of outdoor activities I had planned. By 8:30AM we finished our breakfast of home made McD's style egg cheese and ham muffins and were out the door. Jeremiah is now quite accomplished at riding his bicycle (since it has training wheels does that make it a quadricycle?) so we rode to the local park. The other two rode in the trailer behind me.

After spending an hour or so running around the park we headed home for snack time. The kids ate bananas while I prepared for our next activity. Since the weather was so awesome (sunny and 75F) I wanted to go for a mountain bike ride in Waterton Canyon. The only problem was how to take all three kids along since JP's training wheels just wouldn't work on the dirt... Well, if necessity is the mother of invention perhaps cabin fever is a distant cousin because by the time 11AM rolled around I was rolling down the driveway with not one but TWO bike trailers behind me. Connecting the two trailers involved adding a new hole to one of them to mount the hardware. Yes, as affirmed by passing motorists, bicyclists, and runners - I am still "The Man".

The remainder of the day involved JP and Rachel riding their bikes around the neighborhood, watching Cars the movie, calling mommy, eating Mac'N'Cheese for dinner, bathing the kids and putting them to bed. Overall it was a very rewarding day and the kids were overall pretty awesome. I mean it's just got to be a good day when my 3 year old maintained a good attitude all day and helped his brother and sister. You know, today he started to turn into my right hand man. That's the kind of thing that will bring a tear to any dad's eye.
He loves playing with J.P.'s cars and often messes up whatever pretend game J.P. is playing. Elijah has such a sweet spirit about him. When he looks at you it's like he is looking into our soul. He has a way for bring such peace to a very crazy situation. He has a great sense of humor already. He laughs at all of Daddy's joke at just the right time.

We cannot wait to see what this little guy is going to be doing next month. We are so amazed at how well he is doing for how early he was born. We are so blessed with all three of our children. Our quiver is quite full. Thank you God for all three of our little blessings.
Jeremiah is now 3! We cannot believe it! Where has the time gone. We are planning on sending him to preschool when we get back from our California trip. We think that it is something that he will really benefit from. He is already can count super high, knows his colors, shapes, opposites, can name all the alphabet letters, name the numbers, and is learning to read the sounds that the letters make. He is really wanting to learn to read so we are focusing on that right now.

For his birthday party J.P. wanted Disney Pixar Cars 2 theme. He is really into cars and anything related to cars. He had a blast with all his friends, cake, pinata, opening his presents, and just being a kids where ice cream can be what's for dinner.
It is amazing to see how much he has changed from last year. He is a great boy and a real joy to have as our son. We are amazed at what a sweet spirit he has. So loving, caring and compassionate. He is always looking out for his brother and sister.Don't get me wrong he does at times fit into the "trying threes" sometimes but his general overall personality just amazes us for his age. He is wise beyond his years.

He has also asked Jesus to live in his heart. He wants Jesus to go on a car ride with us and really wants Hi to come over to play. It is the curtest thing ever. He loves praying to God or "talking" to God. It is such a wonderful blessing to see. He has a precious moments Bible and loves to get it out and "read" it.
Elijah is growing up right before our eyes. We cannot believe it! He is scooting all over the place now. He gets up on his knees in the crawl position and rocks back and forth. He has all the right motion but has not put it all together yet. It will not be long before he is really crawling. He thinks any toy on the floor is there for him and he goes right for it (which doesn't always make his siblings to happy). We are really having to watch the toys that Rachel and JP leave on the floor. He can drink out of a straw now and wants to drink out of whatever cup his siblings are drinking out of. He's still a great eater and trembles for his dinner. He is starting to talk now and loves to say "dada" all the time. He has said "mama" but only once or twice. I know it will not be long before I am hearing "mama" all the time.
There are a few toys that he favors one of which would have to be his little radio music player and we never leave home with out it. He loves his tags ball. He also loves monkeys. We have some toys that have monkeys on them and we have noticed that he is drawn to them.

We are so impressed with how loving and sweet his disposition is. We are excited to see his personality develop and cannot wait to those precious first words. We know God has many wonderful things in store for him.
We cannot believe that Elijah is already 6 months old! He got more shots and handled them like a champ. He now weighs 14lbs 2oz (3%). He is 23 1/4 in. (13%). Elijah is growing well from where he started. His growing curve is going up even though he is really small compared to others his age. Our Pediatrician is not concerned at all.

Elijah had his first cold this month. He had a really hard time breastfeeding because he could not breath out of his nose. He likes easting out of the bottle now and we are giving him milk that has been pumped more often than the breast.

He also went to the zoo for the first time. He had a hard time seeing any of the animals because he was stuck in the stroller the whole time. He did loved being outside although his little eyes are so sensitive to the bright sun.

He is such a sweet and content baby. Elijah has such a way for bringing peace to such chaotic situations. When things are going crazy and everyone is melting down, he remains clam and peaceful. He is definitely the calm in our storm. We love it when he looks into our eyes. It's like he's looking into our soul. We know God has many great things in store for Elijah!

These past 6 months have just flown by. We are looking forward to seeing him grow and interact with his siblings more. His first Easter, camping trips, first steps, first trip to Cali., first "real" word, and so much more.

Thank you God for this precious gift of our second son!!
She can climb the rock wall all by herself. She is adventurous but also cautious at the same time. She is more girly and does wear her emotions on her sleeve. She really wants to please but cannot help herself when it comes to trash, toilet paper, and our DVD's.
She is always happy and laughing. She is such a joy to have and we thank God for our Keiki girl!
Elijah is doing well. We took him to his Pediatrician for his 4 month check up. He is growing and changing all the time. He now weighs 12lbs 12oz. He is still on the small end for babies born at the same time, but he's growing well for being born so early.

Elijah is so alert and aware of his surroundings. He loves watching his brother and sister play. He is working on rolling over from his back to his tummy. He does not like "tummy time" and rolls over from his tummy to his back right away when put on his tummy. He loves to grasp his toys and play with them. He also enjoys playing in the jumper. He can barley touch to floor with his feet. It is so cute to see. He is trying to sit up doing the tripod position. Elijah is now eating rice cereal. The first time he ate it he spit more out than he actually ate, but he will get the hang of eating solid foods real soon.

We are so happy that Elijah is in our lives. I know god placed him here in our family for a reason and I'm sure glad He did.
Elijah still amazes us with how far he has come since being born so early. According to his Pediatrician Elijah is one month advanced in development. We feel so blessed that he is growing and developing so well. He truly lives up to his nick name Tuffy.

New things that he is doing and working on this past month include laughing, trying to sit up, standing up while holding onto our hands, grabbing at things and playing with them, and interacting with brother and sister.
Life with three sure can be crazy, like trying to get out of the house by myself. But I would not change it for the world! Being a mom is the best thing in the world and the fact that I get to stay home and be with them all day is the most precious gift Paul can give to me and our kids. I have my moments as I am sure any "normal" mom does, but I try and remember just how blessed we are to have three healthy children.
Merry Christmas! We had a wonderful Christmas as a new family of five. The kids were spoiled as usual by all the Grandparents, and Aunt and Uncles. We took our time Christmas morning opening presents stopping in the middle to give the kids a rest and have some homemade waffles (by daddy) for breakfast. It was a nice and peaceful morning.

Thought it would be fun to show some of the ornaments that some of our family has made for us over the years...
Yes he is very young for being a Senor Pastor, but he is so wise beyond his years. We really enjoy his teachings.

On December 19th Paul and I had Elijah dedicated to the Lord. Paul put together a wonderful prayer for Elijah and had it all typed out ready to read. When we were worshiping that morning before the dedication Paul felt that God wanted him to say something completely different than what he typed. So he bravely went up there and said what he felt God was leading him to say. It was so perfect! I just hope you can hear it on the video because we do not have it written down and Elijah was crying almost the whole time until our Pastor took him, then he calmed right down. Elijah is doing so well. He is growing and gaining so much weight. He now weighs 10 lbs 9 oz. He is 21.5 in long. He still has GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). He gets medicine twice a day to help reduce the acid in this stomach. All three of our kids had this. It went away by the time the other two were four months old. So we are expecting the same with Elijah. Other than that Elijah is doing really well. I am so happy and grateful to God for how well he is doing.

He handled his shots like a champ. He hardly cried. I was really impressed. He is able to stand holding his own weight with his knees locked (of course we are helping him balance). According to our Pediatrician Elijah is a month advanced in development. Which is so surprising to us given just how early he was born. We cannot believe how strong he is.

He is really starting to smile and coo. We have little conversations back and forth with each other. He loves grabbing his toys on his tummy time mat. It's so hard to get him to let go once he has taken hold of one of the toys. Tummy time is hard to incorporate into our day with two other toddlers running around who could trample him. We try to make it work though.

He is sleeping well. The longest he has given us is close to five hours. Although we did not go to bed when he did so we did not get that amount of sleep. But Paul and I do see the light at the end of the tunnel. Our Pediatrician told us that he should sleep better once he reaches about 12lbs. I cannot wait for that to happen!

The Blossoming Momhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15864832043422401053noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7723523434356625202.post-34763897339556625802010-12-09T10:49:00.000-07:002010-12-09T11:09:08.268-07:00JP's Art Projects!JP is really getting into his creative side and he enjoys doing art projects. I can't even believe it has already been a month! Elijah is growing and filling out nicely. He was skinnier than either his older brother or sister when he was born but now is looking rounder.

Elijah's accomplishments thus far include rolling over from his front to back (yes, all by himself!), lifting his head and looking around, looking us in the eye and smiling (and no, it's not always gas), and eating like a champ. Thus far he's avoided developing the "baby GIRD" that plagued his brother and sister. Of course we chalk that up to improved parenting :) ! He is doing so well that we have nicknamed him "Tuffy" because he is just so tough and strong.

Jeremiah and Rachel have adapted well to their new sibling. JP showed some signs of jealousy at first but for the most part that has gone away. He loves to kiss and pet his baby brother and really wants to hold him. We have let JP hold Elijah while sitting and JP says, "Awe, so cute!" which is, well, SO CUTE! JP also says, "It's OK 'lisha" and "Calm down 'lisha" when he's crying. Rachel also loves kissing him and bouncing him in his bouncer.

Here's hoping the next four years go just as fast. JP was a doctor. He had a pager and all the doctor tools but he didn't want to wear them. Rachel was Tinkerbell if you could not tell. And little Elijah was a skeleton. JP and Rachel went down our street to do some trick-or-treating. JP thought it was great that all he had to do was ring the door bell and he would get candy. He had lots of fun! After a long and difficult pregnancy Elijah Paul Laufer is here! He's a month early, but he's here, healthy, and everyone is doing just fine.

It all started a long long time ago... No No No, that would take too long to type out. Basically, I started going into pre-term labor somewhere around 18 weeks. Long story short I ended up getting a circlage at 24 weeks. Between the high risk doctor and my normal OB doctor I was going to the hospital every week, taking progesterone shots weekly, and "Procardia" every 4 hours (3 hours at the end). Even at night! It was like having to wake up to take care of a newborn but the newborn was still inside. So tiring! Fast forward a few months to Monday Oct 4th and I was back in the hospital with steady contractions and a circlage in me. The high risk doctor decided that we were far enough along to warrant removing the circlage. That way I wouldn't have to stay in the hospital under constant supervision and could return home to take care of Paul and the kids until the baby really decided to come.

Fast forward two long weeks of constantly wondering if these contractions were getting closer together or stronger and at 35 weeks 5 days finally things started to progress. We called our friend Holly to come watch JP and Rachel and went in to the hospital. Sure enough I was dilated to 4cm which is far enough along that I was considered to be in active labor. We told them we didn't want to stop labor and to see what happens. Within an hour we had progressed to 5cm! But the last two pregnancies I've gotten stuck at five. A few hours later they broke my water and within an hour of that I was dilated to 9cm, ALMOST ready to push. With my last two pregnancies once I got past 7cm I was ready to push within less than an hour so that's what I was expecting. But this time I got stuck at 9cm! After 45 minutes that seemed like 2 hours they moved me to another room with a hot tub. The thought was that by relaxing in the tub my body would move to 10cm and I'd be ready to push. It worked! They were afraid I was going to have the baby in the tub! So they got me back into the bed, with some nice warm towels, and after a few short pushes Elijah was born! We were so excited and relieved when he came out crying, breathing, and not blue.

They did the usual baby checkout and Elijah was found to be in perfect health. He never needed to be put in the NICU. Thank God! He even wanted to nurse right away and get acquainted with mommy! Dad was all smiles and taking lots of pictures. But I did manage to take this picture!

We spent as short a time in the postpartum room as possible. It is impossible to rest with nurses, doctors, lactation consultants, lab techs, hearing test, baby nurses, pencil pushers, etc. coming in and out at all hours. We let the staff know we wanted to leave ASAP and since this was our third child they figured we knew what we were doing and didn't object, especially since Elijah was doing so well.

About an hour before leaving the day after his birth Grammy made it to visit with the older siblings. Jeremiah saw Elijah and asked, "Baby Rachel?" We introduced him to Elijah and asked him if he wanted to come closer. Jeremiah walked up, got a scared look on his face, and ran and hid behind Grammy! It was so funny and totally unexpected. Rachel seemed unsure and somewhat affectionate with her new baby brother.

All in all it couldn't have gone better. We cannot believe that next month she will be one. Where does the time go? She has changed so much. Rachel is cruising and has taken her first steps. Although we would not say she is fully walking yet. Jeremiah really wants her to chase him. It is so cute to see the two of them interact. She is starting to say real words now. Wow there have been so many changes I do not know where to begin. Let's see...Jeremiah is a wonderfully smart, caring, compassionate, wild, full of energy, dare devil, loving, son. I could not imagine a more perfect child.

Jeremiah really enjoyed his birthday party. It was Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed. One of his favorite TV shows. He had a chocolate cake with chocolate frosting (chocolate his his favorite sweet treat). We had lots of people from our church come with their little ones. I had all my family here to celebrate. It was just a wonderful time to be had by all. It was a very exciting time including having to take care of a wasp nest outside (something all the men really enjoyed taking care of). The hard part for me was that I was on bed rest at the time and could not interact and participate in all the fun. It was really hard watching all the fun that everyone else was having while I was just lying on the couch. But Jeremiah had a blast and that is what matters most. He enjoyed having his Aunt, Uncle, and cousins come for his birthday. They really got along well and had a blast playing with each other. He misses them a lot and will ask about them by name. It was so neat seeing them all play together. I wish I wasn't on bed rest at the time. I would have loved to interact more with all of them.

Mommy on bed rest with kids!

Jeremiah knows all his shapes and colors very well. He loves his flash cards and often asks for me to get them out. His vocabulary has just exploded. He is talking in complete sentences a lot of the time. He still does some baby talk with real words mixed in. He has amazed us with some of the deep things he says.

Jeremiah loves to pray! If we give him food and walk away he reminds us that we need to pray first before he can eat. It is the cutest thing ever. We love to hear him pray. He does it with such passion. It truly is like he is talking to a close friend.

His favorite movie is Cars and in close second is Tinkerbell. He loves watching cars and knows all the characters by name. He also has a lot of the cars from the movie Cars. He tells us their names and has fun making up little games while playing with them. Jeremiah's other favorite thing is going outside! He loves to playing in out backyard and especially on the play set. He loves climbing up the slide and then slide down feet first on his tummy. He often cries when it is time to come in the house.

He is such a wonderful big brother to Rachel! He gives her hugs and kisses all the time. He cannot stand to see her cry (like when she falls and gets hurt). He loves it when she chases him around the room. They both just laugh and laugh. He is very good about sharing his toys with Rachel.
